Accumulating Statistics
The hp 12c platinum can perform one- or two-variable statistical calculations. The
data is entered into the calculator using the

key, which automatically calculates
and stores statistics of the data into storage registers R

. (These
registers are therefore referred to as the “statistics registers.”)
Before beginning to accumulate statistics for a new set of data, you should clear
the statistics registers by pressing

CLEAR

In one-variable statistical calculations, to enter each data point — referred to as an
x-value” — key the x-value into the display, then press

.
In two-variable statistical calculations, to enter each data pair — referred to as the
x and y-values”:
1. Key the y-value into the display.
2. Press \.
3. Key the x-value into the display.
4. Press _.
Each time you press

, the calculator does the following:
z The number in R

is increased by 1, and the result is copied into the display.
z The x-value is added to the number in R
2

z The square of the x-value is added to the number in R
3
.
z The y-value is added to the number in R

z The square of the y-value is added to the number in R

z The product of the x and y-values is added to the number in R
